During the Great Hunger, around 600 starving people were forced to walk over twenty kilometres in freezing conditions from Louisburgh to Delphi Lodge to ask for famine relief. They were denied assistance.

It is estimated around 400 people died at Doo Lough on the journey.

Many were buried where they fell.

Framed in bespoke wooden floating box frame, finished in zoffany ink.
